How would someone with a passion for motorcycles get into watching MotoGP?

I have been interested in motorcycles for a couple years now, and since quite recently my closest friend has been aswell. We're both not really into watching sports, but MotoGP is something we could both get into. However, just turning the TV to MotoGP and watching it doesn't really get me invested in the race.

How do I really get into watching it? What is important to know?
