I've done it! I've been commuting on the same 2012 Ninja 300 for 6 years now. I've racked up 55,000+ miles and realized this little bike has paid for itself in gas cost savings alone. If I didn't commute on my bike, I'll be driving a 2003 Highlander that gets 20mpg at best in the stop and go CA hwys. The approximate cost of gas for 55k miles is $11k (based on avg $4 per gallon gas price). My 300 gets ~50mpg and the cost per same distance is $4.4k. Cost difference of $6.6k in savings. This is not even including cost savings from insurance and maintenance. But most importantly, I've saved a mind blowing amount of time. It's actually crazy to think about how much time you spend on the road. On my bike, I'll avg 1.5 mins per mile on a typical commute (lane splitting). In car, I'll average closer to 2.5 min per mile. In 55k miles, I've spent 57 days on my bike in the past 6 years (which in itself is mind blowing). In a car, I would have spent 95 days travelling that same distance. My little 300 saved me 38 days of my life. That ain't nothing! Thanks for listening to my shower thoughts.
