Did Lorenzo unintentionally help Dovi to unleash his potential?

What if Ducati didn’t sign Lorenzo back in 2016, in this case would Dovi have become 3 times vice champion in MotoGP? Or he would still be just another good rider, maybe would win a race or two per year but nobody would really consider him as a title contender?

Was Lorenzo that extra motivation, that final straw Dovi needed to finally show everyone what he is really capable of?
