Getting started/could use some advice

Total noob questions here - thanks for your patience in advance.I have no experience with automotive (much less, motorcycle) maintenance aside from swapping out basic stuff (car batteries, a cabin fan on my old suv, etc). I am handy in general - I’ve done lots of house projects/not afraid to learn new stuff - just not on gasoline engines.I’m super interested in learning how to maintain a motorcycle with the goal of eventually getting a project bike and building a cafe racer out of something classic/older.My questions are:What are the basic skills I should focus on (e.g. learning basic engine maintenance with the model manuals, welding, body painting, etc) vs what do you (if anything) have done professionally? What pre ’90 makes/models are the best/simplest to work on as a noob?Would you recommend getting something mostly pre-converter to a cafe racer or just grabbing a full on project bike and diving in?What are the basic tools I’m hands-down going to need to start with?Do you have any other advice to keep this poor schmuck out of trouble?EDIT: Clarified a question. via /r/CafeRacers https://www.reddit.com/r/CafeRacers/comments/et5cpr/getting_startedcould_use_some_advice/?utm_source=ifttt
