AFAIK the reason why Tech 3 (and Zarco) left Yamaha is that they weren't satisfied with the amount of factory support they got from Yamaha. IIRC Poncharal said that they got basically no updates last year and their bike was hardly competitive later in the season. So they left for KTM and then SRT Petronas emerged and basically replaced Tech 3. And their results are great.
Why is it so? Do they get more updates from Yamaha than Tech 3 did? It seems to me the team is more tightly knit with the factory than Tech 3 ever was.
Did Yamaha choose Petronas over Tech 3 because Petronas has stronger financial backing? Or is it because of marketing reasons (Malaysian team)?
Or is it solely because of better riders (Quartararo / Morbidelli)?
I don't think that Poncharal is a bad manager or Tech 3 a bad team, quite contrary. They always were a top satellite team in MotoGP.
