I got MotoGP videopass just a couple of weeks ago and this sport is hooking me in very very fast. I watched British GP race after I signed up, then myworld motorrad, then the czech republic one, and then the US one just cuz I'm in the US and thought I'd check it out. Today, I decided I'd learn a little more about qualifying and how that works- more complicated than I thought but that makes it more interesting. So I kinda skimmed through the free practice sessions, and then Q1, then decided to watch Q2 from the beginning. I had no idea that could be so exciting. That said, I'm left with some questions.
1) After everyone pitted (I'm assuming they sort of "feel it out" then go get fresh tires to really give it a go), Marquez was staying right behind Rossi. Rossi was going really slow trying to get Marquez to pass but he wouldn't. I have some questions here.
a) what does Marquez gain by riding behind Rossi?
b) What could Rossi have done to prevent this?
c) the announcers were sounding irritated saying this wouldn't be allowed in Moto3 and so it shouldn't be allowed in GP. Why isn't it allowed? How is it enforced?
2) I've gathered that even though it's a "15 minute session" you just have to get your lap started before the 15 minutes is up. correct? What are some "nuances" there in terms of how riders utilize the 15 minutes? Are there limits to how many laps you can do? by rule, not by time i mean.
3) After the last flying laps where Marquez, Rossi, Miller came in 1,2,3, There's a moment where Miller does the stoppie and another rider.. (Espargaro?) claps for him and stuff which is fun and stuff. But my question is why did everybody stop there?
Thank you in advance. I'm already looking at April next year trying to see if I can make it to Austin.
Also, I'm sorry - I'm sure some, if not all, of these have been covered before but Reddit search sucks and I can't find the info to these specific questions.
