Jorge Lorenzo’s Pre-Season Numbers

This was posted on motorcyclesports.net - admittedly a shitty click bait site that the mods banned but I though this was well put together and worth sharing

Jorge Lorenzo’s move to Honda has filled newspaper covers and now that the pre-season is over, it’s time to review the spaniard’s performance on official tests.

The first test was in Valencia, after the end of last season. The first contact of the spanish with the RC213V was growing:

Day 1 – 18 to 1.543 seconds of the fastest, after 30 laps
Day 2 – 12th to 0.827 seconds to the top, having completed 46 laps

The second official test was held at Jerez, and Lorenzo’s improvements were evident again at each session:

Day 1 – 7th to 0.781 seconds of the first, having completed 56 laps
Day 2 – 4th to 0.160 seconds from the top, having achieved that record in the last of 65 laps

Sepang welcomed the third official test, but Lorenzo was forced to stay out of recovery from a wrist surgery, returning to the final official test in Qatar.

Day 1 – 21st to 2.039 seconds from the top after 38 laps
Day 2 – 18th to 1,149 seconds of the best lap after 44 laps
Day 3 – 5th to 0.445 seconds of the first after 33 laps

The numbers do not lie and Jorge Lorenzo has always improved every session on his Honda. In each of the tests he registered improvements, and in Losail it finished even in the top five. In this pre-season he completed 322 laps (76 in Valencia, 121 in Jerez and 125 in Losail) and the future looks promising. One thing is sure, Lorenzo starts the new adventure in Losail, a track that he knows well and where he has already tasted several things:

– Four consecutive pole positions between 2004 and 2008, starting in the 125cc class, passing through 250cc and MotoGP
– 11 podiums
– 6 wins
– 8 pole positions
– 2 fastest laps
