Can I rinse an entire engine with water?

I have an entire 1980 GS550 engine, works perfectly, turning into a cafe racer. Want to paint it but that requires to clean the engine exterior. Gunk Engine Degreaser says to spray and let sit for X amount of hours then rinse off with water. My question is, Is it safe to do that? To just hose down an engine like that? Assuming I’ve masked off the intake/exhaust and spark plug holes. My main concern is the stator/any electrical mechanisms that are actually apart of the engine.
