Sector+ for Sachsenring

tldr; Sector+ is a scoring system for rating a MotoGP riders performance on a sector by sector basis during the race to provide a secondary evaluation metric beyond championship points. If you're keen to learn how the score is derived, I lay it out on my site, along with the results from the previous rounds. An interesting weekend and another great MotoGP race. Marquez said he had speed in reserve and you can see it in the Sector+ scores as he wins by just enough while posting trailing scores to Rossi over that final segment; Rossi puts in a good score, two laps later Marquez puts in something just slightly better, repeat. Bautista's performance has me working double time on getting the bike factor added in as a component to Sector+, Crutchlow had the pace for the podium, and Vinales again suffers early, but also strangely suffered dramatically in specific sectors that didn't befuddle the other Yamahas.I've entirely dropped reporting the current championship points for each rider as of this round. It is not that I think Sector+ is more important than the actual championship standings, but it seems redundant in that if you're following along with Sector+, you are undoubtedly well aware of the championship standings. It also made me feel bad to keep entering zeros for bunches of the riders when it came to their official points tally. Yes, I know I enter negatives for them instead, but at least the negative means they were there, even if they weren't really that good.MotoGPMarq Marquez took the win and the top Sector+ place at the Sachsenring, edging out Valentino Rossi 133 to 131. Marquez managed his race pace across the duration of the 30 lap event, never dropping below an individual segment score of 43 across the three race segments. Rossi matched Marquez in segment 1 but dropped to a 33 in the 2nd segment, effectively losing him the Sector+ chase despite posting a 54 in segment 3 to lead all riders.Alvaro Bautista made his first appearance in the top three, running a superb race on the older Ducati GP17, joining Rossi and Danilo Petrucci as the only riders to post an individual segment higher than 50. Maverick Vinales again suffered through the same slow start as in previous events, posting a 17 in segment 1 while the six riders who finished ahead of him on the day all put in a score of at least 38. Vinales did ramp up his score across the three segments, finishing with a 49 in segment 3, but it was not enough for him to crack even the top 6 places overall. Vinales seemed to suffer most in the final sector, posting a measly 2.4 Sector+ in sector 4 whereas most of the other top riders were posting Sector+ scores of 20+ for the sector. The top riders were covering sector 4 in just under 21 seconds with a best individual time of 20.95. Vinales' best time through the sector was only 63 best, and his average time was 21.23, so he was giving up more than a second per lap in that sector. That put his Sector+ score for sector 4 in the same ballpark as Jack Miller, Bradley Smith, and Takaaki Nakagami. Vinales also lagged the leaders through sector 1 (16.8 Sector+ compared to high 20s/low 30s for the top Sector+ scores), but was in the top three for Sector+ in sectors 2 and 3, suggesting that he was having issues getting out of the final corner and down the front straight but doing exceptionally well through the tighter middle sectors.Despite the late crash, Nakagami took top rookie in Sector+ with a 10 while Hafizh Syahrin went slightly negative on the day at -3.MotoGPSector+ ptsSector+ avgMarc Marquez1334.44Valentino Rossi1314.36Alvaro Bautista1234.11Danilo Petrucci1203.98Andrea Dovizioso1143.8Jorge Lorenzo1023.41Maverick Vinales943.14Dani Pedrosa672.24Johann Zarco612.02Cal Crutchlow414.14Jack Miller331.08Bradley Smith280.94Andrea Iannone140.46Takaaki Nakagami101.94Alex Rins54.8Pol Espargaro54.8Hafizh Syahrin-3-0.09Tito Rabat-33-1.1Scott Redding-54-1.8Stefan Bradl-77-2.55Thomas Luthi-94-3.14Karel Abraham-120-4Xavier Simeon-151-5.03Moto2Brad Binder pipped Miguel Oliveira for the Sector+ win in Moto2, 127 to 124. Oliveira came on strong in the final segment after a relatively slow start, but Binder was consistently fast and posted the second best final segment to retain the overall lead. Joan Mir took third overall and, obviously, top rookie honors along with it. Luca Marini more than doubled his previous single race high for Sector+, finishing 4th overall with 113 points.Moto2Sector+ ptsSector+ avgBrad Binder1274.55Miguel Oliveira1244.41Joan Mir1174.16Luca Marini1134.03Sam Lowes923.27Marcel Schrotter923.27Francesco Bagnaia682.41Romano Fenati281.01Remy Gardner280.99Simone Corsi280.99Fabio Quartararo230.82Jorge Navarro150.51Danny Kent101.22Xavi Vierge100.34Mattia Pasini73.62Lorenzo Baldassarri73.56Alex Marquez40.15Andrea Locatelli-2-1.19Tetsuta Nagashima-3-0.57Augusto Fernandez-5-0.16Dominique Aegerter-5-0.19Khairul Idham-32-1.14Iker Lecuona-56-2Isaac Viñales-62-3.85Steven Odendaal-62-2.2Stefano Manzi-96-4.56Eric Granado-113-4.04Bo Bendsneyder-123-4.4Xavi Cardelus-124-4.57Joe Roberts-134-4.77Federico Fuligni-141-5.03Moto3Jorge Martin was the clear leader in Sector+ at the Sachsenring, scoring 40 points to John McPhee's 33.
