MotoGP makes less money in a year than Fortnite makes in a month.
Not that i think videogames and racing compete for exactly the same space, but it has to be said that the motoGP annual worth is less than 250 million, while Fortnite makes almost 300 million a month on a free-to-play game. Marquez is the highest paid athelete in motoGP at around 11 million for 2018 and Ninja, a twitch streamer known for playing fortnite, makes roughly 6 million a year on twitch, which is incredible considering that its all crowd contributions. Its partly a sign of the times, but as a fan of the sport And seeing the monetary woes of american racers i wonder what new revenue system, what changes to the game, what technology will come along to address the woes of visualizing racing in a marketable way for the newer generation. A moto2 season for an independent team (two riders) costs about 3 million dollars. A motogp season for a team costs aboout 9 million.Nevermind the cost for families to get their racers to that level. To the members of this subreddit who somehow STILL perpetuate the dorna/marquez/spainish conspiracy, you should look at how many families in spain go bankrupt thinking their kids gonna be the next marc marquez.MotoGP and racing in general needs a new revenue scheme if its going compete in viewership and talent.
