Why did Suzuki resign Rins so early in the season?

I understand Rins had potential when he arrived at Suzuki last year, but that season was a wash due to injury. So 2018 season comes around with renewed high hopes, but Rins can barely stay on the bike in the first 1/4 of the season. Is his salary just incredibly low, is he incredible at developing a bike, does he have some connections in the paddock I don’t understand that keep in him on a factory bike? I don’t get it. Now Suzuki signed Mir (officially?) which is great but seems like Rins is dead weight on the other side of the garage.
