What exact issues did Rossi have on Ducati 2011-12

A thought I've had lately and when yesterday Lorenzo in the press conference mentioned Vale's Ducati was more complicated, can someone explain were the issues bike related, maanagement, both? Was it similar issues Lorenzo had for the first 18 months? I do remember he stated he simply couldn't ride the bike with confidence?
