Looking for starter bike.

I live in the Dallas area, I'm looking for a starter bike. I was looking at a 500cc 84 Honda Shadow but it might not work out, I just need something that I can kind of learn on and Cafe overtime. I would use it to commute to work, and I have to go across a bridge at like 80mph. Any other bike suggestions or anyone selling a bike around here.
