Where does everyone keep their helmet?

I know this is a stupid question, but where does everybody keep their helmet when they go into a store or something like that? I've recently gotten back into riding and I'm not sure what's appropriate. Most of the time I either just go out for a ride and come home, go to work, or go to the gym. But what about things like concerts or restaurants where it's not really appropriate to take your helmet in with you? Do you take it in anyways or do you leave it on the bike and hope that nobody takes it?
